The Manfred Burzlaff Quartet Featuring Gloria Steward – Jazz For Dancing - Exceptional Aanalogue Sound!
Jazz For Dancing is the only known recording by American jazz vocalist Gloria Steward (frequently spelled Gloria Stewart). Recorded over two days in 1965 at Audio Tonstudio in Berlin-Lichterfelde, the album captures Steward performing danceable standards from the American Songbook. Gloria Stewart (1930s–1974) was an American singer who became a prominent figure in the Barcelona jazz scene before moving to Berlin in 1963.
Year: 1965 - All tracks were originally recorded and produced in 1965 at Audio Tonstudio in Berlin.
The Manfred Burzlaff Quartet played daily from 1963 to 1971 at the legendary Old Eden Saloon in Berlin's Charlottenburg district (Germany). In 1965, US singer Gloria Steward joined the club's house band. For years, the band played daily from 10 p.m. to three in the morning. Burzlaff's band during this time included Bob Degen (piano), Michael Dennert (drums) and Michael Bahner (bass).
Manfred Burzlaff (1932-2015) was a German jazz musician (vibraphone and composition). In the 1950s he met jazz greats such as Chet Baker and Stan Getz, first in Paris and later in Berlin. The list of names can be prominently continued: Art Farmer, Albert Mangelsdorff, Jim Hall, Lionel Hampton, Dexter Gordon and many more. He wrote soundtracks for over 40 films and also for commercials. He was a lecturer at the "Hochschule der Künste Berlin" (HdK) and worked as a music teacher at the Neukölln Music School.
